Students always make the right CHOICE at Cloverdale Middle School!
In an effort to reinforce positive behavior and to help change negative behavior Cloverdale Middle School has launched a positive behavior support program called, "C.H.O.I.C.E." Positive Behavior Support organizes adults and students to create a social-culture in schools that will encourage positive behavior and interactions, while discouraging problem behaviors. This social-culture will lead to a safer environment where students achieve academically and build positive relationships with each other and with adults.
One of the foremost advances in school-wide discipline is the emphasis on school-wide systems of support that include proactive strategies for defining, teaching, and supporting appropriate student behaviors to create positive school environments. Research has shown that the implementation of punishment, especially when it is used inconsistently and in the absence of other positive strategies, is ineffective. Introducing, modeling, and reinforcing positive social behavior is an important step of a student's education experience.
Students need to see and know that we are watching them; that we are moving around towards groups or individuals who may begin off task behaviors. By recognizing the children who are following behavioral expectations, there will be reassurance that the positive behavior will continue. Interacting positively with children, even if they are not "yours" will let all students know that everyone is expecting compliance with the expectations.
CMS will focus on large quantities of positive reinforcement to students who are demonstrating positive behaviors. Periodic direct instruction in specific student behaviors, which demonstrate core concepts of honesty, ownership, integrity, citizenship, and effort, will be emphasized.
Together WE can achieve more!
